St. Raymond Community Comes Together to Help Fire Victims
The St. Raymond community immediately stepped up and went to work to help those affected by the fires in Santa Rosa and the Napa Valley.
Our Kindergarten class collected coloring books, crayons and family games. Through the Order of Malta in San Francisco, these items were delivered directly to the shelters set up for the families who lost their homes in Napa and Sonoma. The donation provided some welcome entertainment for the children living temporarily in these shelters.
Two of our students, Anjali P. and Axel P. led the effort in 5th and 1st grade. They rounded up their classmates and collected three carloads of supplies which they delivered to John The Baptist Catholic School in Napa. The supplies were distributed to many families in need.
The St. Raymond Student Council joined the relief effort with a school wide fundraiser to aid Cardinal Newman High School in Santa Rosa. The fires destroyed the campus and devastated the students and the surrounding community. Student Council raised nearly $2000 for fire relief for Cardinal Newman High School by selling "Celebration Dress" passes. The passes, good for 5 Celebration dress days, were sold to St. Raymond students and the money donated directly to the high school.
First grade will also be collecting items to help rebuild Mark West Community Preschool which was completely lost in the fire in Santa Rosa. They are hoping to contribute supplies for arts and crafts, gardening and other much needed items. One of our first grade students, Matteo D. has a who cousin attends this preschool.
We are so proud of our students for all of their efforts on behalf of the fire victims. The outpouring of love and support among our St. Raymond family was amazing to witness.
