Students Honor Veterans
St. Raymond students gathered in the gym to honor our nation's Veterans. The assembly was led by Naval Lieutenant and St. Raymond Dad, Camilo Colorado. He was joined by our teachers Mr. Patrick Sullivan who served in the Marines and Mr. Greg Colt, who served in the Navy. They shared with the students their reasons for joining the military and devoting years of their lives to serving our country. The three gentlemen traveled the world while in the Service, learning many valuable lessons, helping others and meeting interesting people along the way. Lieutenant Colorado wrapped up the assembly by reminding the students to pray for our military. Finally, the whole crowd joined the Colorado family in 20 push-ups!
In addition to the assembly, the 2nd and 5th grade classes made cards thanking our Veterans for their service to the country. Second grade teacher, Kimberly Carlisle, sent the cards to a family friend who served as a Sergeant Major in the Marines for 30 years. He is now retired, and heads the Wounded Warrior project in San Diego. The cards were given to Veterans at an event in San Diego. Cards made by St. Raymond students were also passed out at an event held at the Menlo Park VA Hospital. The Veterans were touched by the heartfelt messages of appreciation sent by our students.
