Getting a Feel for Middle School

Getting a Feel for Middle School

In an effort to prepare our 5th grade students for their transition to middle school, the students spent a day in 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes.  It was very exciting for the 5th graders to have an opportunity to shadow a middle school student and participate in their activities, to learn more about what middle school is really like.

Parents of current 4th and 5th grade students were also invited to attend a Middle School Parent Panel.  The event began with a brief introduction to the differences between middle school and the elementary years, followed by a panel discussion with current middle school parents who shared their experiences.  Moving on to middle school is an exciting time for the students as they transition from self-contained classrooms to departmentalized/subject-based instruction.  Although only half way through the school year, our current 5th graders seem to be well prepared and ready to go!
