6th Grade Scientists Solve Energy Needs Around the World
After studying fossil fuels and alternative energy sources, the 6th grade students embarked on a project to solve the energy needs of a specific city in the world. Working in groups, the students did extensive research and then chose a city that they found has a need to use alternative energy sources. They focused on a very polluted city or a city that could not afford to change their energy source.
After finding a suitable location for their project, the students researched the geology, weather, and natural resources of the area to determine what alternative energy would be the best fit. Alternative energy sources included solar, wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric. The students designed a PowerPoint presentation and presented their findings to their families on Wednesday evening. They also made models in class to represent the exact geology/surroundings of where they would place their new alternative energy source. The 6th graders impressed their teacher Mrs. Hamilton, their families and peers with both their scientific knowledge and their poise in presenting their findings.
