Menlo Park Mayor, Kirsten Keith, Visits 3rd Grade
The Third Grade class had a very special visitor. Menlo Park Mayor, Kirsten Keith, came to talk with the Third Grade students about her role as Mayor. In connection with their Social Studies unit on local government, the students went straight to the source to find out about how the city of Menlo Park operates.
Mayor Keith spoke to the Third Grade about her responsibilities as Mayor and the challenges and rewards of her position. The students wrote questions for the Mayor in advance and placed them in a "ballot box." Questions ranged from, "What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?" to "What inspired you to be Mayor?" Mayor Keith answered each question and then spent time asking students about their thoughts and ideas. She was very interested in what would they like to see happening in their town.
The students were highly engaged and their knowledge of local government was apparent as they conversed with the Mayor. A big thank you to Mayor Kirsten Keith for taking the time to meet with some of her young constituents.
