Second Grade students took part in some hands on learning at the end of the school year as they opened and operated a "Farmer's Market" for the First Grade class. Second graders learn to count money in Math, and they learn about producers and consumers in Social Studies. The students took their knowledge and used it to run the Farmer's Market. Second graders were put into groups. Each group was in charge of selling a different item such as flowers, chocolate chip cookies, carrots and tangerines. The students made a poster to advertise the item they had for sale and decorated paper bags for the first graders to use while shopping. Each First Grader was given three "Farmer's Market" dollars to use to buy items at the Market. Second Graders raised and lowered their prices depending on how their items were selling. First and Second Grade students both thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learned a lot about buying and selling goods.
