Lucy Coyle Competes in the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics
St. Raymond School eighth grader, Lucy Coyle, used her speed and endurance to earn a spot on a relay team which competed in the USA Track and Field Junior Olympic National Championships. The Championships were held in Lawrence, Kansas in July. Lucy teamed up with three other local Catholic school athletes (Felicity Desuasido-Immaculate Heart of Mary, Julia Granucci-Our Lady of Mount Carmel, and Colleen Lucey-St. Matthews) to form a 4 x 800 meter relay team. The girls competed at the local and regional levels in order to qualify for the National Championships. They finished 15th in the 13-14 age group.
Last Spring Lucy was an integral part of the St. Raymond 7th grade girls' track team that finished 2nd in the PPSL. The St. Raymond School Track and Field team is extremely fortunate to have some expert coaching by Lucy's dad, John Coyle. Coach Coyle competed in track and field at the University of Notre Dame where he was an All American middle distance runner. It appears that Lucy may follow in her Dad's footsteps. Congratulations to Lucy and her teammates!
