Junior Kindergartners Meet 6th Grade Buddies
A very exciting part of the start of the school year for Junior Kindergarten is when they meet their 6th grade buddies. Last Thursday, Mrs. Stieren's 6th grade class came to JK and introduced themselves to their JK buddies for the first time. There was a lot of excitement and a little apprehension on the part of our littlest learners, but once the 6th graders arrived with books in hand to read to their JK buddy, all went well.
Every year JK students are paired up with a 6th grader and they are buddies for the entire school year. At the first meeting 6th graders bring a favorite book to share/read to their JK buddy. JK attends First Friday mass with their buddies. In October, 6th grade buddies will take their JK buddy to the St. Raymond School Pumpkin Patch. Other highlights throughout the school year include festive Christmas and St. Valentines Day activities, a field trip to the Academy of Sciences, and a movie/popcorn party at the end of the year. Sixth grade buddies are instrumental in helping our JK students transition from pre-school to Junior Kindergarten here at St. Raymond School.
