Finnan M. Wins Spelling Bee for the Third Year In A Row
On January 19, St. Raymond School held its annual spelling bee, an event that gives one student from each grade the opportunity to show off their spelling skills and move on to the regional competition in Berkeley. This year, instead of the usual eight participants, two talented eighth grade spellers were invited to compete. Finnan M. and Emily W. had challenged each other in the qualifying rounds, but soon realized that their skills were too equal to only choose one competitor.
Along with Emily and Finnan, seven other gifted spellers joined in the competition. Addie S., Ella S., Sierra K., Sarah T., Andrew G., Nelson H., and Blake Z. also participated in the Spelling Bee, each representing their respective grade. The final five competitors included Addie S. from first grade, Sarah T. from fourth grade, Nelson H. from sixth grade, and Finnan M. and Emily W. from eighth grade. After a fierce competition, two finalists began to battle it out in the final round. Nelson H. competed against Finnan M., who had won the spelling bee the previous two years and won his class competition every year. Finnan became our winner after spelling the word “cabaret” correctly, and now all of St. Raymond wishes him good luck as he moves on to the regional competition.
