"Pioneer Day" Provides Hands-on Learning for 4th Grade Students
Our Fourth graders experienced a day in the life of a pioneer first hand as they loaded up their wagons and headed out on the prairie. Students spent the day participating in various activities much like those that filled the daily life of the pioneers. Our 4th grade pioneers made fry bread, panned for gold, put together a rag doll, used a brand to make stationary, created their own pioneer art called "Gods Eye" using sticks and yarn, and visited the Trading Post where they purchased food and supplies.
The class shared a picnic lunch with their Pioneer families. They spent time writing in their journals, recording all that happened in their busy day. Everyone enjoyed the hands on learning experience and seemed to get a true feel for life during the Gold Rush.
