Brendan Carney (STR Class of 2015) Plays Basketball at Marquette University
Following a stand-out senior year at Sacred Heart Prep, St. Raymond School alumnus (Class of 2015) Brendan Carney made the decision to work hard this past summer and walk on to the D1 basketball program at Marquette University. Having been accepted to Marquette, Brendan went on a visit to the university and liked it very much. Brendan sent the basketball program a tape and was invited to participate in the “open tryout” in early September. Twenty-six student athletes competed over the next few weeks. The pool was reduced to six and then three. After a final brutal conditioning session, Brendan was selected. He joined a previously recruited preferred walk-on from Wisconsin as one of the two walk-ons on the final roster. Marquette, has a preseason Top 25 ranking and plays in the Big East Conference which includes Butler, Creighton, DePaul, Georgetown, St. John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, and Xavier Universities and Providence College.
Brendan had an outstanding basketball career at Sacred Heart. Senior year he was named to the First Team All League. He was the co-captain and leading scorer (16ppg) for SHP varsity basketball and the third leading scorer in the WBAL. Brendan was also named to the prestigious All tournament Team at Surf N Slam Tourney in San Diego and the All tournament Team at the MLK Classic in Piedmont. He is a six time Honorable Mention Palo Alto Online Athlete of the Week and recipient of San Jose Mercury News Highlight Reel (1/23) standouts of the Week.
We are very excited to follow Brendan as he continues his basketball career at Marquette University.
